I Madé Djata is one of the most skilled Batuan painter. He produced highly intricate and meticulous drawings.. it is his intention to produce foto realistic works He is very productive and many of his works were collected by Rudolf Bonnet and the American anthropology couples: Gregory Bateson and Margaret Mead.. His works are in the Tropen Museum, Amsterdam; Leiden Ethnology Museum, Museum Puri Lukisan, Bali, Indonesia.
The painting depicts various activities around the tooth filing ceremony. At the bottom center a group of men slaughtered and cut up a pig. By the water fountain anothe man is cleaning the innards. At the top right two women are walking bringing offering. Along their path to the place of the tooth filing ceremony, kids are playing. A group of men are grilling satay. At the left of the tooth filing pavilion a puppeteer is performing wayang lemah. A priest is administering the tooth filing.
Condition: excellent for the age
Provenance: Dutch art market.
