Lot of 48 hand-coloured albumen prints (Japan, ± 1880 Meiji) Up for auction is this lot of 48 original hand-coloured albumen prints, laid down on recto and verso of mounts These albumen prints are attributed to Kusakabe Kimbei (1841 - 1934) possibly including a few images by other Yokohama photographers This lot contains various Japanese scenes, landscapes, temples, and people in traditional costume, mostly titled in the plate, including: Theatre Osaka Temple Gate Shiba Tokio Silk Store Tea Ceremony Kago, Travelling Chair Washing and Starching Clothes Girls in Bed Room Festival Lanters, Yokohama Jinrikisha Bamboo Grove Eating Rice Girls Dancing Et al. Size of the albumen prints is approximately 20cm x 27cm Each print is mounted on original card, dimensions of these cards is approximately 31cm x 38cm Each of the 48 albumen prints is mounted on card back to back, as such you will receive 24 cards with an albumen print on each side Condition of the albumen prints: The prints are in overall very good to excellent condition, with a couple having some stains. The scans of the images reflect the tones reasonably accurately. Condition of the cards: Please notice the cards are slightly warped/wavy. Also most cards have some minor staining around the margins with a couple of cards having soiled margins. Lastly a few cards have some corner wear.
