As the Titanic sinks, Philips pounded on the CQD, SOS to all nearby ships, alternating between the two in the hopes that someone out there would pick-up the distress call on the night of April 14-15, 1912; reads:
"We have struck iceberg; sinking fast; come to our assistance". His efforts even reached the Carpathia's wireless radio sending a message that 'the accident was serious' and that the White Star liner was sinking by the head!
