Ancient Greek Bronze Sword Big. 47 cms Lenght Late Bronze Age, 1600 and 1200 BC Provenance: Bought in 2023 from a Spanish prestigious Gallery Y. Ex-Emeritus Collection (USA). Collected since the 50's by a distinguished University Professor who served as department head, Dean and Vice President of a major University. The piece includes the Spanish Export License issued by the Ministry of Culture of Spain which guarantee the legal acquisition of the piece. This ancient Greek bronze sword blade, dated between 1600 and 1200 BC, is a significant artifact from the late Bronze Age, measuring 47 cm in length. It is made of bronze, an alloy of copper and tin, with possible traces of lead or arsenic to enhance its hardness and durability. The blade is double-edged, sharpened to a pointed tip, and has a lenticular cross-section, balancing sharpness with structural integrity. In ancient Greek warfare, especially during the Mycenaean period, these bronze swords were crucial. Warriors fought in phalanx formations, where the sword was essential for close combat, complementing spears and shields.
