This is printed using the original woodblocks from original publisher Unsodo, Japan. Shinnyodo is a temple in Kyoto, established in 984 by a priest from the important Enryakuji Temple. Asano Takeji was a Japanese Shin-hanga and Sōsaku-Hanga artist. He was born in 1900 in Kyoto where he studied arts and crafts at the Kyoto City School of painting with Tomikichiro Tokuriki. He first learned Western oil painting and then turned to Japanese-style painting under Tsuchida Bakusen (1887-1936). He became an active member of the sosaku hanga group in Kyoto. Starting in the 1950s, Asano designed a large number of Shin-hanga style prints for the Unsodo, which continue to be printed to this day. Especially the “famous views of Japan” series have been re-evaluated in recent years. Shinnyodo is a temple in Kyoto, established in 984 by a priest from the important Enryakuji Temple.
