N.º 84259533
N.º 84259533
Bust portrait of Queen Mary Stuart 2, 1662-1694, Queen of England, Scotland and Ireland, Princess of Orange. Studio of Sir Godfrey Kneller ( 1646-1723). A full length variant of this portrait is in Windsor Castle. Mary married with William of Orange, a Dutch Stadholder and Prince and together they ruled as William and Mary from 1689 on after the so called Glorious Revolution. The Glorious Revolution was intended to prevent that a Catholic would raise to the British throne. Queen Mary was an ardent collector of Delft faience especially towering tulip vases. And was fond of rabbits which were everywhere in her palaces. She died only 33 years old from smallpox. This portrait is executed in oil on relined canvas and is place in a later gilt frame. The portrait is painted in an oval ledge.
