A refined Fubako 文箱/文筥 (letter box) in excellent quality made by nashiji and maki-e lacquered wood.
The outer surface of this fubako shows a fine maki-e gold lacquer lid decoration of flying cranes, pine trees, plum blossom, turtle and rocks within fan-shaped areas. These pattern was created with great precision and detail, capturing the beauty in every nuance. The gold lacquer was applied with great skill, creating an effect of depth and three-dimensionality to the floral motif.
The interior and the bottom of the Fubako are coated with nashiji lacquer, a traditional Japanese finish that creates a thick gold dust effect over the entire surface. This finish offers a charming contrast to the glossy black exterior. The spacious interior of the fubako can be used to store precious objects, jewelry or other treasures.
To complete the work, a orange cord acts as a closure for the box.
