The lever can be activated with the finger simply by pushing it, however the lever also passes under the clip, thus when hanged into a pocket, the fabric passing under the clip will automatically turn off the pen. It features the famous Montblanc clip mechanism knowned as the 11th finger. The ’11th finger’ was one of the slogans, advertising this clip lever operated ballpoint, (referring to the lever that moves the refill). This mechanism makes sure the point is retracted as you place the pen in your shirt pocket. Very convenient feature for all doctors in the world with ink stains on their white coats pockets.
