Sabre BRIQUET for troops of the infantry Model AN IX
The briquet-sabre was the standard sabre of the French infantry during the Napoleonic period.
The model was also used by the allies of Napoleon (such as some German States and the Netherlands).
This specimen is equipped with a blade made by the Italian swordsmith Paolo Landi in Brescia, who was commissioned by the French Government to produce blades during the Napoleonic period. His signature is on the back of the blade.
There are also various special marks and inspector marks on the blade and the brass bracketed hilt.
In Europe, the Briquet remained in production until far into the first half of the19th century, but the various markings on this specimen undeniably date from the Napoleonic period.
Some additional information is included.
The condition is good (the blade has become moderately spotted).
The sheath is unfortunately missing.
The length is 74 cm.
