Seigan Soi (1588-1662) was a monk of the Rinzai sect, painter and poet in the Azuchi-Momoyama and the early Edo period. He was the 170th abbot of Daitokuji Temple. Also known as Jishoshi or Koro. His title is Seijo Horan Zen Master. He practiced meditation under Gyokufu Shogo at Daitoku-ji Temple, then became the legal heir to Kengoku Soyoshi, and became the chief priest of Daitoku-ji Temple. He later became the chief priest of Shinagawa Tokaiji Temple. His calligraphy was strongly influenced by Zhang Jizhi. He was also excellent as painter.
Kobayashi Taigen was born 1938 in Shenyang. He was raised in a Buddhist monastery from his sixth year. In 1975 he became successor of abbot Miyanishi Gensho at Obai-in, subtemple of Daitoku-ji, Kyoto.
