Wolfgang Ludwig (born 1923 in Mielesdorf, † March 25, 2009 in Berlin) was a German artist. He is considered one of the most important German representatives of Op Art.
This motive was shown on the legendary MoMA op-art exhibition "Responsive Eye" in 1965.
Wolfgang Ludwig was born in 1923 in Mielesdorf in Thuringia. He first studied (1947-1950) at the Academy of Visual Arts in Leipzig and subsequently completed (1950-1956) a second degree at the Academy of Fine Arts in Berlin with Hans Uhlmann and Alexander Camaro. In 1955 he received a scholarship from the Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes. From 1956 to 1967 he worked as a freelancer for the Berlin architect Paul G. R. Baumgarten. In 1967 he started a position as a lecturer at the Academy of Graphic Arts, Printing and Advertising. From 1971 to 1991 he worked as a professor of visual communication at the College of Fine Arts. On March 25, 2009 Wolfgang Ludwig died in Berlin.
