Medical pewter French Irrigator "Seul Veritable Irrigateur"-19th century
A rare French pewter/brass vaginal irrigator Docteur Eguisier from the 19th century.
It is called "Veritable Irrigateur Système Nº du D Docteur Eguisier octeur Eguisier".
It was invented by Dr. Maurice Eguisier (1813-1851) who was a successful gynaecologist & obstetrician,
the man who discovered pregnancy could be detected through urinalysis.
This vaginal irrigator was designed to treat gynaecological ailments.
It was patented in 1843 and won n international award in 1850, everyone wanted to have one, especially the female members
of the French bourgeoisie.
It was manufactured in Paris by Jean-Baptiste Charbonnier on 376 Rue St. Honoré, and made in brass coated pewter.
On the front it says: Seul veritable irrigateur. dud.

Complete with turning handle,
In very good condition, miniscule dent on back, the text is still clear.
