French mas 36 rifle bayonet WW2
The MAS Modèle 36 was a military shooting rifle. It was first approved in 1936 by France and was intended to replace the series of rifle servers of Berner and Lebel, but it served for a long time during WW2. It was manufactured by Manufacture d'Armes de Saint-Étienne (MAS), one of several arms factories in the hands of the Government in France. Because production started at the end of 1937, there were not enough MAS-36 rifles available to the French infantry to arm themselves when the war broke out in September 1939. The mass production finally ended after the second world war and MAS-36 rifles were widely used during the war. First Indochina war, the Algerian war and the Suez crisis. In total about 1.1 million MAS-36 rifles had been manufactured when production stopped in 1952.
The MAS-36 had a 17-inch spike bayonet, reversed in a tube under the barrel. To use the bayonet, a spring plunger was pressed to unlock the bayonet. It was then free to be pulled out, turned around and placed back in its holder.
