The BR 601, formerly known as the VT 11.5 was a diesel train set series built for the TEE-services of the Deutsche Bundesbahn. For the TEE-network that started operating in 1957, the German Federal Railroad developed a diesel train set with luxury carriages, the VerbrennungsTriebwagen 11.5. The design was based on various studies that were carried out by Kruckenberg since 1930. The trainset consisted of two motor vehicles in front, a concept that was later adopted by the TGV and ICE.
