A beautiful and large antique Gaper from the Netherlands. Height: 18 cm and Weight: approx. 2 kg. This is the no. 9 Gaper from the Intec Gapers from the 1960s and 1970s which were made in limited numbers and were issued to pharmacies and chemists and were never sold to the public. This Gaper has been handmade out of stone and has been painted. Has a few signs of old age (Please see the photos for any details). A true collector’s item. These gapers served as advertising items for the chemists and pharmacies and were meant to attract customers, but were also a clear indication as to the quality of that pharmacy. These were often placed above the doorway, but since the 17th century they have mostly been attached to the gable. It is not actually yawning but is opening it’s mouth to take medicine. The grimace on their faces is proof that the medicine tasted foul. Will be carefully packaged and shipped by insured mail.
