In 1951, the 24-year-old Franche-Comté Gérard Mantion had an original idea for the time: to sell watches by mail order to private individuals.
From a small store on Jeanneney street in the watchmaking city of Besançon, he and his wife launched their first 12-page catalogue presenting 67 models of watches for men and women. Thus the Maty company was born.
Superb Besançon 'Maty' model from the 1960s. Gold-plated case measuring 35.5 mm in diameter without the crown and stainless steel screw back.
Champagne-coloured dial.
Inscription: signed Maty Besançon at 12 o'clock
Black overlaid markers and gold-plated hands with luminescent tips, black central second hand, as well as a day/date calendar at 3 o'clock. Unmarked crystal. Black leather strap, 19 cm long without the pin buckle.
