This is a detailed fossil trunk of a carboniferous sigillaria tree. For us now the sigillaria trees were very unusual or even alien with a single or forked trunk and very long leaves, see picture! On this fossil here you can see the leaf scars in vertical rows. Most sigillaria fossiles I have found are fragmentary, small and weathered. This however is a very good quality fossil. The stone was found in July 2019 in the region of Saarbrücken, Germany. It was found in rest material that came out of the former Camphausen coal mine. A plant fossil just like this offers a glimpse in to the past plant life during the carboniferous period.
