Bastet or Bast (also known as B'sst, Baast, Ubaste, and Baset) was a goddess of fertility in Egyptian mythology, depicted as a cat. In her oldest form she would also be displayed with a lioness head and an ankh cross. She is the goddess of joy, dance, music, feast, life and warmth.
She appeared since the 2nd dynasty and was then considered to be a protector of the Pharaoh. Usually she holds a sistrum. She may also be displayed as a mother who suckles her young.
