The pepper mill and salt shaker combine functionality and design into practical yet elegant accessories. The wood processing of the second traditional production line in the region in which Alessi finds its roots. Designer Ettore Sottsass is internationally regarded as one of the initiators for the renewal of design and architecture. Both items are made of beech and look good. They were produced in collaboration with Peugeot. The salt shaker is a very rare find, so this set taken together forms a true collector's item. Dimensions Pepper mill: height 23 cm, diameter 7 cm Salt shaker: height 9 cm, diameter 7 cm. Along with metalworking, wood processing is the other old and traditional production method in the area from which Alessi originates: Strona Valley in the north of Piedmont, Italy. In order to preserve this valuable link with tradition, Alessi in 1988 acquired the oldest original company of the valley, Battista Piazza 1865. A number of historical objects from the early 20th century were reissued. Between the 1980s and 90s, Ettore Sottsass, working with the young designers in his studio, was the chief designer of the Twergi line of wooden products. This pepper mill has a classic shape of twisted wood and perhaps is the best Alessi design to be executed in this material.   Ettore Sottsass (Innsbruck, 14 September 1917 – Milan, 31 December 2007) was an Italian architect and designer from the late 20th century. He was the founder of the Memphis group. Sottsass was born the son of an Italian architect and Austrian mother. In 1929 the family moved to Turin. Here, Sottsass studied architecture and graduated from the polytechnic school of Turin in 1939.
