15th century medieval Hungarian knightly sword This is the early type of Schiavonesca sword used in Southeastern Europe. The iconic form is commonly refered as the Italian Venetian style, but the tightly recurved S guard is typical of this region (mainly Hungary and Serbia ). This type of single handed sword with long blade was an effective fighting weapon on horse back and also on foot. These swords often seen battles on the perimeters of Hungarian kingdom under the reign of the famous Hunyadi's in the long war against the Ottoman empire armies. The S guard steel core is covered with a softer iron shell with light scratch marks for a better support of a what was supposed to be silver coating, which is now gone but under investigation traces could be detected under microscope. The pommel also had a hollow part on one side to hold a coat of arms possibly, which is also gone now , as usual. There is a small repair to the pommel securing, otherwise the sword is in good strong original condition, cleaned of corrosion, good strong blade, no rust is flaking or so. It is presumed the sword was made for a knight or someone of high status.
