Ludolph Georg Julius Berkemeier (20 August 1864, Tilburg - 18 July 1931, Noordwijk), educated in Germany, was influenced by the emerging Barbizon School. Returning to the Netherlands, he was drawn to the Hague School, which shared Barbizon's ideals. In 1896, he settled in the pristine fishing village of Noordwijk, which later became a renowned seaside resort. There, he opened an art supply shop and studio, painting the village's untouched beauty and creating souvenirs for German tourists. He further developed his style by taking lessons in plein air painting from Jan Hillebrand Wijsmuller, who also worked in the area. They also collaborated on projects. Furthermore, in recognition of his contributions to the artistic community, a small street in Noordwijk has been dedicated to him as a namesake. ⦿ Signed l.l.: L Berkemeier. plus verso artist autograph: Toren te Rijnsburg, Ludolph Berkemeier ⦿ Dimensions approx.: 19 x 12,5 cm without frame, 19 x 24,5 cm with frame ⦿ Condition: showing normal signs of aging. ⦿ Period estimation: late 19th century ⦿ Please note: the frame comes as a gift and should be treated as such. ⦿ Safe ✓ fast ✓ eco-friendly ✓ tracked ✓ insured shipping, from Germany. ⦿ Please reuse or recycle the packaging.
