【Product details】
This exceptional pair of creative kokeshi dolls represents the modern interpretation of a traditional art form from the Showa period. These dolls are the work of artists who have received the prestigious Prime Minister’s Award, celebrating their unique contribution to Japanese craftsmanship.
The first doll (taller one), “Warm Spring” by Takamizawa Kazuo from Maebashi City, Gunma Prefecture, is clothed in a kimono featuring the hemp leaf pattern, symbolic of rapid growth and protection, and plum blossoms, heralding new beginnings and hope. Takamizawa's accolades include the Prime Minister's Award, indicating his exceptional skill and contribution to the art of kokeshi-making.
The second doll, “Maiden” by Sekiguchi Sansaku (1925-2018), tells a story of resilience and artistry. Sekiguchi's life, marked by his time as a soldier in Manchuria and subsequent internment in Siberia, blossomed post-war into a career that earned him multiple honors, including three Prime Minister's Awards. As a holder of the title "Contemporary Master Craftsman," his work embodies the spirit and craftsmanship revered in modern Japan.
These dolls are in reasonable condition, with some signs of wear and stains that only enhance its authentic charm. Please note that only one doll comes in an original box.
