He received designation as a traditional craftsman from the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry in 1975 for his contribution to Yamagata casting, a traditional Japanese craft. He made his debut at the Nitten (Japan Fine Arts Exhibition) in 1951 and achieved numerous selections thereafter, participating in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs-sponsored international art festivals. In 1959, he was honored with the Nitten Special Selection and Hokuto Prize. Later, in 1966, he served as a judge for the Nitten. Yokokura Kazan also demonstrated his talent by creating the tea ceremony kettle "Kata Kake Benibana-kama," presented to Their Imperial Highnesses the Crown Prince and Crown Princess upon the request of Yamagata City.
