Very fine nashiji and maki-e artwork. Beautiful grape patterns are designed on the surface of this Suzuribako with maki-e and mother of pearl techniques, the water drop also carved with grape patterns, very vivid and all of these patterns made the suzuribako very charming. This Suzuri’bako 硯箱 (writing box) of rectangular form with rounded corners and nashiji lacquer 梨子地 (sprinkled gold lacquer) on a golden ground. The well-fitted cover decorated with the plant of grape fruits and leaves executed in gold takamaki-e 高蒔絵 (high-relief lacquer design). The grape fruit granules inlaid with colorful mother-of-pearl 螺鈿 (raden) and oxidized silver. The reverse of the lid also decorated with grape leaves and fruits, also executed in high quality lacquer in relief with inlaid raden. The box with a fitted tray housing an inkstone 硯 (suzuri) and a silver waterdropper 水滴 (suiteki). The entire interior, tray and bottom side done in the nashiji lacquer finished by golden fundame 粉溜地 (finely-ground gold powder) rims. Techniques: Nashiji, Maki-e and Inlaid with mother of pearl.
