The Nagoya obi is an improved version of the Fukuro obi, which is difficult to tie, but can be tied more easily.
Some obis are suitable for formal wear, while others, such as the Nagoya obi with a gorgeous pattern woven with gold and silver threads, can be used for semi-formal wear.
However, since the length of the obi is just right for "ippetaiko" (an obi knot with a single layer at the back), Nagoya obis are basically suitable for casual, everyday use.
