Rare Intec Gaper number 26. Please see and read the booklet. From a collection of 41 gapers, issued and made by the company Intec in Veenendaal. Only chemists and pharmacists with sufficient turnover received these unique, hand-painted gapers. They are all made of crushed natural stone, except for no. 41 which was the last one and is made of resin. The moulds were eventually destroyed in front of guests at the company’s farewell party
The gapers served as signboards of an apothecary to attract customers to his shop. Attached to the façade since the 17th century. The gaper is not yawning, but his mouth is open in order to take his medication.
Gapers are real folk art products and were only seen in the Netherlands and Flanders
