French Vintage antique Victorian anno 1870, Red Strass - Oro 18 kt - Oro giallo, Oro verde - Spilla

A masterpiece of Victorian craftsmanship, this enchanting brooch, fashioned from a vintage watch chain, showcases exquisite enamelling on 18K gold, complemented by 14 red strass accents. Originating from France, circa 1870, it embodies a timeless elegance, allowing versatility as a pendant or locket. Its creation evokes nostalgia for a bygone era, admiration for its artisanal ingenuity, and wonder at its transformation from the practical to the profoundly beautiful, making it a testament to the era's ingenuity and the enduring allure of Victorian design. Type of jewel: Vintage Charm: The Story of a Victorian Brooch Condition: very good Country of origin: France Style: Vintage antique Victorian Era: ca. 1870 Material: 18K warm yellow gold and details in green gold (touchstone tested) Technique: Enamelling is an old and widely-adopted technology. The ancient Egyptians applied enamels to pottery and stone objects. Enamel is the colorful result of fusing powdered glass to a substrate by firing, usually between 750 and 850 degrees Celsius. The powder melts and flows and hardens to a smooth, durable vitreous coating on metal, glass or ceramic. Extra information: All components of this brooch originate from a watch chain (fob chain) with sliders. The sliders were used to adjust the length of the necklace, and the tassels and medallion typically hung on the side where the watch was attached. All parts have been respectfully integrated into this brooch at a later date, in such a manner that no alterations were made to the individual pieces, allowing them to be rearranged in their pristine condition. Thus, they can always be returned to their original state. It is commendable that the creators have treated antique work with such respect. It is also entirely feasible for the attached part to be removed (by a goldsmith) so that it can be worn separately as a pendant. Precious stone(s): 14 red strass (also called paste) as ruby imitation Birth and month stones: Ruby is the birthstone (or month stone) for July. Hallmarks: The French control mark for 18K gold representing an eagle's head that was in use in France from about 1838. Dimensions: 3,80 cm (1,50 inch) x 8,35 cm (3,29 inch) - See picture with a ruler in cm and inches Weight: 19,40 gram (12,47 dwt) Adin reference Nº: 24054-0263 - Accompanied by a professional report of authenticity for your peace of mind. - Shipped insured and registered for your security, though you're most welcome to collect in person. - For shipments outside the EU, import duties and other charges may apply.
