Yamaoka Tesshu [Yamaoka Tesshu] [Yamaoka Tesshu]
[1836-1888] A swordsman and politician from the late Edo period to the Meiji period. People of Edo. His common name is Tetsutaro. A former retainer of the shogunate and the founder of Muto-ryu swordsmanship. During the Boshin War, he served as Katsu Kaishu's envoy and persuaded Saigo Takamori, brought about the meeting between Saigo and Katsu, and led to the bloodless surrender of Edo Castle. After the Meiji Restoration, he served as a chamberlain to Emperor Meiji.
The tip of the hanging scroll is wood.
Condition is very good.
