This Showa-era marvel utilizes advanced maki-e techniques, including raised maki-e and gold nashiji, to brilliantly depict plovers among seashore pines, a motif that exudes elegance and magnificence. Maki-e is a traditional Japanese decorative technique where gold or silver powder is sprinkled onto wet lacquer to produce intricate designs. Nashiji employs a similar method, using gold or silver flecks to achieve a pear skin-like texture, offering a unique shimmer and depth to the surface. The intricate design, resplendent in its golden backdrop, reflects the quintessence of traditional Kaga maki-e artistry, a testament to generations of fine craftsmanship. Accompanying this natsume is a wooden box signed by Jimyosai, born in 1938, the 14th grandmaster of the Omotesenke School of tea ceremony. He ascended to the title after the passing of the 13th grandmaster, Sokuchusai, in 1979, and continued to honor the legacy of Sen no Rikyu's tea tradition, including commemorating the 400th anniversary of Rikyu's death. In 2018, he passed on the lineage and took the retired name Sōtan. The endorsement by Jimyosai attests to the natsume's authenticity and exquisite artistry, ensuring it is a collector's gem in excellent condition. Dimensions: approx.
