Modern makie is different from traditional maki-e, and refers to a technique in which gold or silver powder is applied by hand one by one onto a pattern printed on silk without using lacquer. Because it can be applied thicker than traditional printing methods, the powder's shadows and reflections create a three-dimensional texture.

Made of brass and ABS plastic.
