Kobayashi Shomin (1912-1994), originally named Kunio, hailed from Aomori Prefecture. He gained recognition for his work early on, debuting at the 2600th Anniversary Celebration Exhibition in 1940 and continuing to showcase his pieces at subsequent prestigious exhibitions such as the Shin-Bunten and Nitten.
