Ancient Roman Legionary Silver Lunar Amulet with Phallus
Circa 1st-2nd century AD
This silver lunar amulet takes the shape of a lunar crescent, with conical-shaped finials and a down-facing phallus flanked by testicles.
In ancient Rome, the phallus held significant cultural symbolism, often associated with fertility, protection, and good fortune. Individuals, both men and women, wore phallic symbols, such as this gold ring, as talismans to ward off evil and invoke prosperity.
