A+ quality fossil fish, Mioplosus labracoides, from the Green River Formation, Wyoming, USA.
It dates from the Eocene Period, 50 million years old.
Of all the fossil fish in the Green River, Mioplosus is often found with other fish stuck in their mouths.
It was a predatory fish and often bit off more than it could chew!
The Formation was an inland lake of around 900 square miles, and its chemical make- up prevented decay and scavenging, so the preservation is superb.
This fish has exquisite preparation and is truly of Museum quality.
Size: Plate 46 cm x 31 cm & Fish 21 cm long. Weight 4.5 kg.
It is protected by a wooden backing for security.
