It's hard to believe that's only 40 percent. Maybe the alcohol in the bottle has evaporated or calmed down a bit over the years, because nothing stings here. In the blender glass I find the port aromas, the spicy oloroso and a bit of vanilla from the American oak, lots of fruits, lychees, cranberries, berries and bananas, a suitable copper note is present throughout. Everything Irish mild, but not thin. Taste On the palate it is also a very harmonious malt with complex aromas from the nose. Lots of dark wood, sweetness from raisins and plums, a bit of depth with the metallic copper notes and the 40 percent is actually still developing on the palate. A bit of dry dark wood at the back. I really like the drinking strength, if it's a cheap standard with only 40 percent, then so be it. Finish The distillate is oily. Point. Even with Springbank 10 you only have 46 percent. Nose Nose: Light, fresh, floral, vanilla, toffee, buttery, honey, baked apples, sweet citrus, orange, wood, slightly tart, cinnamon, spices. Taste Taste: Surprisingly, exceptionally velvety, vanilla, large influence of wood, very tart, as if licking wet wood, even bitter, bitter citrus fruit, grapefruit, pomelo, grapefruit peel, bitter caramel, cocoa, a lot of pepper, a bit of smoke and it's only 40%. Finish Finish: medium short, similar to the taste, it is tart, bitter, cocoa, some bitter citrus in the background. Well, it's not nice.
