This adorable West Highland Terrier is called Ruaraidh (pronounced Roo-ree). He belongs to distillery manager James MacTaggart and is Arran’s unofficial mascot. Ruaraidh (nicknamed ‘The Westie’ for the convenience of non-Gaelic speakers) is the subject of the third release in the collectible Icons of Arran series. Arran 1998-2011 The Westie is drawn from 22 refill Oloroso hogsheads filled in 1998. The 12-year maturation has created a rich and warming Arran single malt with a delightful complexity. The nose has a fresh aroma with hints of toasted oak, treacle toffee and orange zest. The palate is full-bodied and buttery with an initial rush of vanilla essence and Demerara sugar. The sweet character subsides leaving cocoa powder and cardamom sweets. The finish is malty and smooth with plenty of spice. Arran 1998-2011 The Westie is a limited edition of 6000 bottles.
