Johann N. Gebhard (1798 - 1879) - Peasant girl
Romantic portrait of a peasant girl was executed by Austrian portrait painter of the middle of the 19th century Johann Nepomuk Gebhard (1798 Brunn - 1879 Vienna). Gebhard was born in Brno, studied there under Ferdinand Licht and later under Kreutzinger in Vienna. Paiter is listed in: Prof.H.Fuchs, Austrian Painters of the 19th Century, Vienna, 1973; Thieme/Becker, General Dictioary of Painters from Antiquity to the Present, Leipzig, 1999.

Inscription: signed Johann Gebhardt and dated 1863, lower right. Old label with the biography of painter attached to the reverse.
Technique: oil on canvas. Gold-plated frame.
Measurements: unframed w 15" x 22 1/4" (38 x 56.5 cm), framed w 21 1/2" x h 28 1/2" (54.7 x 72.5 cm)
Condition: in good condition, canvas professionally relined.
