Seljuk Pair of Glazed Pottery Oil Lamps Circa 12th-13th century AD This nice pair features two pottery oil lamps, each presenting a hollow rounded compartment with a circular opening or domed lid with an openwork design. Each lamp is equipped with a loop handle and protruding thumb rests. Sitting on a flat base, one of the lamps is adorned with a cream glaze complemented by splashes of brown and blue, while the second one is finished with a blue glaze and stands on three short legs. The Seljuks, a medieval Turkic dynasty, played a significant role in shaping the history of the Islamic world. Emerging in the 11th century AD, the Seljuks originated from the steppes of Central Asia. The dynasty began with Tughril Beg, establishing its dominion across a vast territory, including parts of Anatolia, the Middle East, and Central Asia.
