A program for the John F. Kennedy birthday celebration at Madison Square Garden featuring Marilyn Monroe.
Souvenir program, 4 pp, with "Happy Birthday / Mr. President" to cover page, the contents of which details the various notable committee members and patrons, the chorus and credits, as well as the program order of celebrity well-wishers and performers including Jack Benny, Ella Fitzgerald, Danny Kaye, Henry Fonda, Maria Callas, Jimmy Durante, Bobby Darin, Diahann Carroll, and the most famous performer of all, Marilyn Monroe, who famously sang her inimitable rendition of "Happy Birthday, Mr. President" to a smiling Kennedy in the audience.
In the famous film footage of this May 19, 1962 event at Madison Square Garden, Monroe beckoned everyone to join her in the song after her solo, and a huge cake was presented. Kennedy then approached the podium saying, "I can now retire from politics after having had 'Happy Birthday' sung to me in such a sweet, wholesome way."
