Up for auction is a set of rare English transferware made by WH Grindley & Co in 1897 in their "brussels" pattern, which shows beautiful green/blue flower patterns throughout the earthenware. A rare sight! Consisting of:
1 large (30x21 H19cm) & 1 small (22x15 H12cm) tureen
1 bowl (26x24 H7cm) & 1 bowl on pedestal (30x21 H11.5)
2 round serving platters 36x34cm & 32x34cm
1 large oval serving platter 45x30cm
6 dinner plates measuring 25.5cm
The set is in good condition with no damages, it shows slight signs of aging/discoloration on some parts
Founded in 1880 at the Newfield Pottery, William Harry Grindley and Mr Alfred Meakin produced earthenware and ironstone primarily for the Canadian, United States, South American and Australian markets, so seeing this in Europe is an odd occurrence. In March 1883 Alfred Meakin left the partnership, Grindley continued alone and it moved to the Woodland Pottery in 1891. Ultimately the company was closed in 1991
