He is one of the pioneers of the stencil movement in Bristol, a city which played a key role in the rise of urban art in the United Kingdom. From the age of 11, Denning developed a passion for oil painting, developing remarkable self-taught expertise in the art. Despite several rejections from art schools, he persisted in his artistic journey, teaching himself painting techniques and deepening his knowledge of art history at the Open University. His work is deeply rooted in both tradition and modernity. He skillfully combines stencil techniques, popular in street art, with more traditional methods of oil painting, creating a unique and expressive style. His works are often portraits that express deep and complex emotions, reflecting his interest in the human condition and the social aspects of art. Denning was a key player in the development of street art in Bristol, alongside artists such as Banksy and Nick Walker. All three helped define the style and approach of British street art, although each with their own artistic signature. Denning is notable for his use of stenciling to create intense portraits, while Banksy is famous for his satirical works and Walker for his humor and satire. Based in France since 2007, in the Monts d'Arrée, Denning continues to develop his style and explore new themes in his art. His approach, which links his British heritage to his experience in France, continues to attract attention and respect in the contemporary art world. Guy Denning thus remains an influential and respected figure in the world of street art and painting, making a significant contribution to these fields.
