Let's all reflect for a moment on the "Anodised Aluminium" PowerBook G4’ 20th anniversary. One of my favourite retro Apple laptops: the "Anodised Aluminium" Powerbook G4. "Vintage Computing luxury" at its best. When you think of laptops from the early 2000, you probably think of "black or silver plastic construction". Apple's idea of a premium laptop 20 years ago was the genesis of modern laptop design. It was well ahead of it's time. The whole point of this exercise was to create a laptop that had the best of everything: – premium materials; – class leading industrial design; – super powerful. PS/ compare this model with the previous powerbook G3 model (just a few years between them). What a difference! The Powerbook G4 – even today – looks so modern! Because it's using the same design theme's that Apple stock to ever since. We have: – speaker grills; – a trackpad centered at the bottom of the device; – thoughtful port placement; – and did I mentioned … the Apple logo that is the right way up (previous models had the logo upside-down). In 2004 this Powerbook model was forwarded-thinking. // ANODISED ALUMINIUM DESIGN This model solved all the esthetical problems of the previous "Titanium" model. After 20 years the appearance of this powerbook is barely changed. The Alumium still stays "good-looking". Clad in aluminum, no one can argue that the 15-inch Apple PowerBook G4 isn't attractive. This model was an upscale adaptation of Apple's less expensive, (white) polycarbonate iBook G4. PS/ I will auctioned this model too (next week). So collectors … stay tuned! The Powerbook G4 – 1 GHz model (PS/ not the previous models) features light sensors that slowly illuminate the keyboard (backlit) and dim the screen when ambient light grows darker, a well-received usability improvement. Like the iBook G4, the PowerBook G4 has a comfortable keyboard with rounded keys shaped to fit your fingers It was one of the first laptop with "wider aspect ratio" (display). Back then (2004) … this was the common review: "The PowerBook G4 lets you walk around in style. Excellent design, good productivity performance, solid set of features and connections and great speakers". I like the laptop's speakers, which hide underneath the central screen hinge yet somehow provide rich, multilayered sound. // WHAT TO EXPECT? The powerbook is in pretty decent shape. There are not to many dings and dents on it. Although – as to be expected – the "aluminum material" shows some user scratches. But overall it's in very pretty good shape! The inside is … in just the same nice shape as the outside. Of course I did wipe the whole machine down with alcohol and cleaned it thoroughly. And regarding the battery. As to be aspected the battery doesn't holds charge anymore (ps: online you can still buy replacement batteries). Thus. Pluging in … is the best thing to do when using this laptop. // IMPORTANT – WHY BUY FROM ME? (instead of other sellers) I am a Mac user from way back in the Legacy Era. I offer Vintage Apple computers as I would buy them myself. My admiration for Steve Jobs' legacy is so great that I want the Macs I sell, to stand "the test of time". Furthermore I only sell items I have "passion" for. Hardware-wise, all my sold computers are completely disassembled, cleaned – and, if necessary, repaired – in order to extend their lifespan. Vintage computers … packed with "lots of software" makes RETROCOMPUTING a lot more interesting. // HARDWARE & SOFTWARE It was Steve's vision to intertwine hardware and software. Retro-computing without software is therefore – in my opinion – "meaningless". Therefore, all my macs are packed with "tons of pre-installed software of yesteryear", ready to use – and to give you a glimp of Apple's history. Normal signs of use and wear. But as an experienced connoisseur I can guarantee that these items are in VERY GOOD condition (always keeping in mind their age). There are some tiny stains, scratches, another user traces on this machine. Especially on the bottom (but also some on front of the laptop). Sadly these are impossible to capture on the pictures (but they are there!). So have realistic expectations when buying this item. The ANODISED ALUMINIUM is not brand-new! – the computer works as it should (extensively tested!). The speakers sounds heavenly. Even the CD/DVD-player (often broken) works excellent on this iMac. Last-but-not-least. The USB connection are CHECKED too (it works)! – there are NO scratches on the screen and NO dead pixels and the LCD colors are "vivid" (this is often also a common issue). // PACKAGING & SHIPPING The "Anodised Aluminium" PowerBook G4 is packaged securely and carefully for safe shipment.
