A nice high quality water dropper (SUITEKI) for calligraphy from the Edo period (19th century) shaped as a Hotei carrying a money bag with a child. The stopper of the water dropper is shaped like the fan of the Hotei. The milky white porcelain is decorated with highlights of the typical soft cobalt underglaze blue from the Hirado kilns. The eyes of the Hotei and child are left unglazed.
