A rare Nazca offering plate presenting a medallion with a killer whale deity with stylized shape and contrasting colors. Killer whales, found in the seas off the coast of Peru, are cunning and powerful hunters. This bowl depicts a killer whale deity with human arms in addition to fins, representing the fearsome strength of natural forces that had to be appeased by sacrifice. Polychromed ceramic, some surface wear but good general state of conservation. Dimensions: 17,00 cm. Provenance: Acquired at a french auction house. Formerly part of an old french private collection.
