But Jean-Hugues Gros had already been working in the Douro since 1999. After completing the Enology course and several internships in Burgundy in 1992, Jean-Hugues Gros had the unique opportunity to spend 16 months at Sandeman, in Porto. And that was how he began his discovery of Port and Douro wines. Today, Jean-Hugues Gros is a producer and also a winemaking consultant for several Douro farms, such as Quinta da Casa Amarela, Quinta do Cume and Quinta do Espinho. VINIFICATION The grapes come from 3 areas of the Douro, at altitudes between 450 and 650m and from granite soil. The grape varieties selected are mostly Rabigato, Viosinho and Códega do Larinho, from vineyards over 20 years old. The grapes are pressed and the must is decanted for 2 days at 10ºC. After being cleaned, fermentation occurs partially in 500-liter French oak casks and the rest in stainless steel tanks at a temperature of 14ºC for 3 to 4 weeks. At the end of fermentation, the wine is separated from the thicker lees. The wine aged with seminal batonnage until the end of January and the final batch was made in February, to be bottled between April and June. 2013 TASTING NOTES Some barrel smoke joins the notes of ripe fruit (apricot, apple), in a very balanced combination. Creamy and enveloping, with a well-achieved harmony between the fresh fruit and the discreet barrel. Long finish with spicy notes. 2015 TASTING NOTES Lush and gorgeously balanced, this handles its wood beautifully. It coats the mouth and rolls over the palate with caressing texture. Full bodied, this still seems fresh, and it has fine underlying acidity. It may be the best white I've seen from Odisseia. SERVING It goes well with fish dishes, seafood and appetizers. Serve at a temperature of 8ºC to 9ºC. Consume in moderation. -> 2017 JEAN HUGUES-GROS, Odisseia Colheita White 4 x 0.75L AWARDS/RECOMMENDATIONS 88 Points, Robert Parker 16.5 Points, Good Choice, Vinho Grandes Escolhas 16.5 Points, Revista de Vinhos WINE VARIETIES: Viosinho, Rabigato & Códega do Larinho. VINIFICATION Pressing, decanting the must for 48 hours and fermenting at low temperature (14ºC) for 3 weeks. TASTING NOTES Pale colored wine, it is a fresh wine, citrusy and floral on the nose. In the mouth it is concentrated, fruity, with fine acidity and a long finish. It is a wine without oak, with good aromatic intensity, concentrated and fresh. SERVING It goes well with fish dishes, seafood and appetizers. Store in a horizontal position, in a cool and dry place, protected from light and temperature fluctuations. Serve at a temperature of 8ºC to 9ºC. Consume in moderation.
