Gien - Fiaschetta - Fiaschetta lunare con motivo di uccelli giapponesi - Faenza

This exquisite Gien moon flask pottery hails from France, crafted sometime between 1866 and 1871. Adorned with meticulous hand-painted designs, this ceramic vessel, resting elegantly on its foot, boasts remarkable preservation and comes intact. In 1821, Thomas Edme Hulm, also known as "Hall," concluded operations at his Montereau factory, a family endeavour dating back to 1774. He then acquired the grounds and structures of the former Minimes convent, laying the foundation for a fresh enterprise. Here, he embarked on the production of faience employing the English method. The artisans of Gien mastered the art of replication, skilfully crafting replicas of antique pieces at a reasonable cost. Employing gifted ornamental painters, they fashioned unique creations, blending contemporary motifs with those reminiscent of past eras. Drawing inspiration from European counterparts and the Far East, they adorned their pieces with both innovative designs and echoes of tradition. Initially focused on crockery, Hulm expanded his repertoire to include dinner services, decorative items, and personalized dinnerware adorned with family crests. The production of oil lamps emerged as yet another hallmark of Gien's craftsmanship. In 1870, Gien's faience artisans further refined their craft, incorporating the technique of cloisonné enamels, originating from Longwy. The zenith of Gien's faience production spanned from 1855 to 1900, garnering numerous accolades at international exhibitions held in 1855, 1867, 1878, 1889, and 1900. 484 g 18.8 cm tall 16.5 cm wide 5 cm long Excellent antique condition. Minor crazing of the enamel, appropriate to age. No traces of damage or restoration were found when examined under ultraviolet light.
