PLEASE NOTE: This is a recurring auction. The seal number(s) you see on the photos might differ from the one(s) on your bottle(s). 1974 Barros Colheita Port – 25 April Special Edition 1 x 0.75L DESCRIPTION Barros wines are a celebration of Portuguese talent. They are the expression of a talent that is ours, refined through experience and knowledge. They were born at the troubled beginning of the 20th century, in 1913, and managed to assert themselves until they were recognized as a reference by consumers. In deep respect for Portugueseness, Barros wines embrace the Tawny and Ruby families of Port Wine. The year is 1974 and the winds are of freedom. A significant turning point in Portugal's history. A paradigm shift that, 50 years on, Barros is honouring with a Special Edition. To the freedom represented by the hands of Teresa Rego, an artist from the new generation of Portuguese talent, in an illustration that aims to celebrate April without barriers or restrictions, as it should be celebrated. A work that seeks to be a scenic counter-sense, serenity in confrontation with the strength of the date, while being open to everyone's interpretation. A living tribute to the courage of a people and the beauty of freedom of thought. WINEMAKER: Pedro Sá. AWARDS/RECOMMENDATIONS 98 Points, Gold Medal, International Wine & Spirit Competition 96 Points, Gold Medal, Decanter World Wine Awards 95 Points, Richard Mayson 95 Points, Revista de Vinhos 94 Points, Tom Cannavan 93 Points, Wine Enthusiast 93 Points, International Wine Challenge 92 Points, Wine Spectator 91 Points, Wine & Spirits Magazine 18.5 Points, Best Wines of 2023, Vinho Grandes Escolhas Best of Show Port & Grand Gold Medal, Mundus Vini Gold Medal, Concours Mondial de Bruxelles WINE VARIETIES: Tinta Barroca, Tinta Roriz, Touriga Franca & Touriga Nacional. VINIFICATION Hand-picked at the point, the grapes are destemmed, crushed and vinified according to a process which is based on careful maceration with the extraction of color, tannins and skin aromas, complemented by permanent pumping over during fermentation. This is carried out in stone basins at controlled temperatures between 28-30ºC, until reaching the desired Baumé. At this point, eau-de-vie (vinage) is added, resulting in a fortified wine. Of very high quality, it results from a single vintage. Aging in barrels for variable periods, never less than 7 years, which can immediately be bottled, according to market demands. TASTING NOTES The 1974 harvest results in a wine that takes advantage of its grape counterparts to shine in the form of a light amber colour, with a rich, enveloping nose dominated by opulent aromas of prunes and almonds. A structured, elegant wine with a delicious, lingering finish. SERVING Excellent accompaniment to egg and sugar desserts and dried fruit desserts. Store in an upright position, in a cool, dry place, protected from light and temperature fluctuations. Serve at a temperature between 12ºC and 14ºC. Consume in moderation.
