You are bidding on a very fine 4/4 violin, labeled Joannes Franciscus Pressenda q Raphael fecit Taurini anno Domini 1838.
The instrument remains in good ready to play condition, professionally restored with grafted scroll, bushed peg-holes, new ebony set up, new Despiau bridge and Pirastro strings. The whole length of the violin is 584 mm and the back 356 mm. The width of the upper bouts: 168 mm; middle bouts: 113 mm; lower bouts: 207 mm.
Materials: very nice one piece strongly flamed maple back and straight high grained spruce top. Golden-brown-reddish varnish. Some small repairs on top and sides.
The sound is very deep, rich, powerful, suitable for soloist.
