Alessi - Mario Trimarchi - Macchina del caffè - Caffettiera - ''Ossidiana'' - fusione di alluminio. Maniglia e pomello in resina termoplastica

Fully aware of an object’s narrative ability, Sicilian architect Mario Trimarchi has designed this “Ossidiana” espresso coffee maker back in 2014 and even won the Compasso d’Oro (2016) for this exceptional machine. Like his other projects, this one is based on memories and fragments of images, told through the form of an article. “Ossidiana” embraces the memory of the various sides of the traditional moka coffee pot and those of obsidian, the volcanic stone it is named after. Produced from polished aluminium, this coffee pot has a series of sides that underline its ergonomics, allowing it to fit beautifully in the hand for easy handling when opening and closing. The little aluminium ball grip, coated in thermoplastic resin to prevent burning, almost disappears, enabling the coffee pot to express all of its visual power. The tiny size of the ball does not however affect its functionality. Placed close to the handle, it can be used with just one finger. The lid has a little internal tongue that collects the condensation when opened, causing it to run down into the pot itself and not along the handle. In black thermoplastic resin, the latter also has a faceted shape that is both ergonomic and functional. This machine is as new and never been used. Delivered with original special hexagonal packaging designed by Mario Trimarchi that matches the faceting on the coffee pot. Manuals are included as well. Trimarchi about the making of the “Ossidiana” machine: ‘’Lately I have been very interested in sculpture. The kind of sculpture that subtracts matter from a solid block to discover the hidden forms within. I began from a cylindrical volume, eliminating the superfluous scales of aluminum one after another, in order to arrive at a coffee maker that was like an architectural sculptural, one that felt good your hands while it was being unscrewed. Flint, the material of our first recorded ancestral tools, was also used in this way, by subtraction, taking material away. “Obsidian” suggests a new kind of ergonomics for household objects and its form observes us, mysterious and timeless.’' Dimensions: ø cm 8,5 - h cm 17,5 - cl 15 cl 15 / ø 3¼” - h 7” - 5¼ oz Capacity: 15.00 cl About Mario Trimarchi: Designer and architect, he believes in the project as a tool to spread poetry in the world of things. Director of the Domus Academy Master in Design from 1990 to 1993, he was part of the Olivetti Design Studio, designing cash dispenser and personal computers. In 1999 he founded FRAGILE, a corporate identity studio that he led together with Frida Doveil, designing brands and communication systems for Banca Intesa, Cariparma, Coop Italia, Fiera Milano, Gebana, Olivetti, Poltrona Frau and Poste Italiane. Former Professor of Corporate Identity at the Faculty of Architecture in Genoa, he currently teaches Brand Design at Naba and Product Design at Abadir Academy. He draws day and night.
