About the author: Giovanni Battista Poletto followed a course for photographers organized by the air force in the 1930s and specialized in aerial photography. In 1949 he met Roberto Rossellini who wanted him as a photographer for the film Stromboli. Since then he has worked for the production company Titanus with the major Italian directors including De Santis, Antonioni, Visconti and Risi.
