This exquisite equestrian doll, meticulously handcrafted by the Maruhei Shop, is a fine example of traditional Japanese artistry from the Taisho period. Housed in its original wooden box, the horse is carved from wood, and the doll is adorned with traditional attire, featuring a face and hands delicately painted with gofun (crushed oyster shell).

Maruhei Doll Shop is among the oldest doll shops in Kyoto, boasting a history of over 250 years since its establishment in the Edo period during the Meiwa era. It has been a family-run business for generations. Their dolls are renowned for their exceptional quality and beauty.

The item shows signs of age, such as slight wear and dust. There is a small repair at the base of the horse's neck and a few hairline cracks on the horse body. The doll has a small chip on the right foot and a stain on the back of the garment. Please refer to the photos for a detailed view of the condition. Add this piece of Kyoto's heritage to your collection and enjoy the legacy of one of its most distinguished doll makers.
